BMI to Honor Taylor with Taylor Swift Award

Publish date: 2024-05-09

Taylor Swift is on fire.

She just recently became a 10-time Grammy Award winner, she’s the first artist to sell one million or more copies of an album in a week-long period for three albums, she has an Emmy, and she’s the first and only female to ever win the Grammy Award for Album of the Year twice.

That doesn’t even begin to cover what all the multi-talented 26-year-old has accomplished in her 10-year career.

And now she’s about to add yet another accolade to her name.

BMI has announced that they will name an award after the Shake It Off singer in recognition of her “incomparable creative and artistic talent and influence on music lovers throughout the world.”

The first-ever Taylor Swift Award will be presented to Taylor herself at the 64th annual BMI Pop Awards. The Awards, a private event, will be held on May 10th in Beverly Hills, California.

The Taylor Swift Award will be the 54th award Taylor has won from the performing rights organization.

About the decision to honor Taylor, BMI Vice President of Writer/Publisher Relations Barbara Cane said,

“Taylor Swift has transformed pop culture through her songs, artistry, and indomitable spirit. She has had a profound impact, not only musically, but also through her personal conviction and commitment to create a standard that values and respects music for everyone. We felt it appropriate to award Taylor with an honor that is as unique and special as she is.”

According to BMI, this is the second time in history that they have named an award after an artist. Michael Jackson became the first musician to have a BMI Award bearing his name back in 1990.

Taylor’s honorary award comes as no surprise, as she has put in a great deal of hard work over the past decade. Just some of the other many awards Taylor has won include: 25 Teen Choice Awards, 22 Billboard Music Awards, 19 American Music Awards, and 10 People’s Choice Awards.

Taylor also currently holds five records in the Guinness World Records. Not to mention, she’s the first woman to be honored as Billboard’s Woman of the Year twice.
