Cimorelli Release 'Alive' Music Video

Publish date: 2024-05-11

Today, Cimorelli officially released their second album, called Alive. After being pre-released on PledgeMusic in late 2016, the album is now available to download and stream worldwide. The band started a campaign called #IAmAlive leading up to the album release date, encouraging fans to share stories of how their music has impacted their lives. The girls themselves also shared personal stories behind the songs on Alive in a mini-documentary on their Facebook page.

In addition to the album finally being released for all to hear, the music video for the title track of Alive was also posted today. As always, the group did a fantastic job of creating a visual that reflects the meaning of the song and adds a whole other level of significance.

The video begins with six words quickly flashing across the screen: Joy, Grief, Isolation, Anger, Pain, and Hope. The video follows the six girls separately, each representing one of the emotions that make someone ‘Alive’. Amy is grieving the death of a loved one, and Lisa feels isolated despite being surrounded by friends. Christina represents hope by walking over a bridge where others have committed suicide, and Dani is in pain and on the verge of self-harming. Meanwhile, Katherine and Lauren are on opposite ends of the spectrum, with the former embodying joy and the latter portraying the emotion of anger.

There’s a beautiful sequence towards the end of the song with each girl falling on her knees- all for completely different reasons in entirely different situations. It shows how all of the emotions we feel are connected, and how feeling all of them is what makes us human. The video ends with a close-up of a handwritten poem. Look a little closer, and you’ll see it was written by Katherine Cimorelli. In the first part of the Alive documentary, she talks about the experience that led her to write that poem and how it eventually inspired the song ‘Alive’.

The ‘Alive’ music video is the first from their sophomore album, and we can hopefully expect more in the near future.  It’s no secret that Cimorelli are basically the queens of music videos. Almost every song on their debut album has gotten a music video, and they regularly make videos to accompany their weekly covers on their YouTube channel! We can’t wait to see what they’ll do with the rest of the songs on Alive.
