Mario Lopez Walks Backs Remarks About Parenting Transgender Kids After His Words Spark Outrage T

Mario Lopez is walking back his words after his comments about parenting transgender kids sparked severe outrage against the TV personality. The soon to be Access Hollywood host is now issued an apology for ‘ignorant and insensitive’ comments.

During a recent interview on The Candace Owens Show, Lopez was asked his thoughts on the “ongoing trend of celebrities letting their young children pick their gender.” The father of three was vocal in his opinion, and it did not go over well at all.

“Look, I’m never one to tell anyone how to parent their kids, obviously, and I think if you come from a place of love, you really can’t go wrong. But at the same time, my God, if you’re 3 years old and you’re saying you’re feeling a certain way, or you think you’re a boy or a girl or whatever the case may be, I just think it’s dangerous as a parent to make that determination then. Okay, well then you’re going to be a boy or a girl,’ whatever the case may be. It’s sort of alarming and my gosh, I just think about the repercussions later on,” the 45-year-old said.

He went on to suggest parents need to be the “adult” and make the child wait until they are older to have a discussion. The Saved By The Bell alum’s words have earned him a significant amount of backlash. Social media was outraged at his words, especially the transgender community.

Wade Davis II, a former NFL star turned activist, and Queer Eye star Karamo Brown shared both their disappointment with the host. They also suggested he educate himself on the subject before speaking on such a public forum.

Mario Lopez issued an apology on Wednesday afternoon following his name trending on Twitter and not in a good way.

“The comments I made were ignorant and insensitive, and I now have a deeper understanding of how hurtful they were/ I have been and always will be an ardent supporter of the LGBTQ community, and I am going to use this opportunity to better educate myself. Moving forward, I will be more informed and thoughtful,” he said in a statement to People magazine.
