Rachel Roy was getting slammed for days because she had the audacity to post this ^^ now-deleted Instagram with the caption “Good hair don’t care, but we will take good lighting, for selfies, or self truths, always… Live in the light #nodramaqueens.” It seemed especially pointed because Roy posted that Instagram the same night that Beyonce dropped her Lemonade, which memorably featured the lyric “You better call Becky with the good hair.” The Beyhive has been attacking Roy ever since, convinced that she is THE Becky in question, or one of several prominent Beckys. Now, in an exclusive statement to People Magazine, Roy is trying to do some damage control. And she’s asking for the Beyhive to STAHP.

Rachel Roy is finally addressing those “Becky with the good hair” rumors. In a statement released exclusively to PEOPLE, the celeb-favorite fashion designer denied that she is the woman at the center of the Jay Z cheating rumors – which were sparked by Beyoncé’s new album Lemonade. Roy is speaking out after three days of intense speculation that began with a now-deleted Instagram post.

“I want to put the speculation and rumors to rest. My Instagram post was meant to be fun and lighthearted, it was misunderstood as something other than that,” she said. “There is no validity to the idea that the song references me personally. There is no truth to the rumors.”

Roy, 42, continued: “Consequently, online haters have targeted me and my daughters in a hurtful and scary manner, including physical threats. As a mother – and I know many mothers would agree – I feel that bullying in any form is harmful and unacceptable. I would hope that the media sees the real issue here – the issue of cyber bullying – and how it should not be tolerated by anyone,” she said.

Does this read as angry to anyone else? Because I’m getting “anger” – anger that Beyonce won’t or can’t shut down her fanbase, anger that Beyonce even dared to call out the side pieces, anger that her daughter is being brought into it. And you know I love to parse official statements, and I think this one was carefully written: “There is no validity to the idea that the song references me personally. There is no truth to the rumors.” Listen to what she is NOT saying. She is not saying she never had any dealings with Jay-Z in a sexual way. She’s just saying that Beyonce wasn’t referencing her in the music. And really… how does she know that?
